2007.09.02 Surf Lesson




Here on Maui, everyone surfs. I love to surf, but my level is much lower than most of the surfers on the island. A few weeks ago, I went surfing at a beach popular with surf schools. Surf schools give lessons to tourists visiting Maui who have never been surfing before. As I was surfing a small wave, there was a lady lying down on a big, blue board. She obviously had never been on a board before and could not control where she was going. As I rode up to her, I just turned my board and went around her. She looked at me and said, “Sorry… you are really good!” I never thought anyone would say that to me on Maui. I think I will surf that spot more often!
